CANCER COMMITTEE


Approved by Executive Committee of Medical Board as a Standing Committee on February 21, 1979.

STATEMENT OF CHARGE TO THE COMMITTEE:

1. American College of Surgeons requires that hospital by-laws show a Cancer Committee as a standing multidisciplinary committee of the institution with designation of specific responsibilities.

2. This policy making and evaluation committee must meet at least quarterly with records of attendance and minutes kept. Membership should include representatives from various specialties involved in care of cancer patients.

3. Responsibilities encompass supervision of diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, follow-up and end results reporting. The committee must meet at sufficiently frequent intervals for policy decisions and patient care evaluation.

4. American College of Surgeons requires the committee to be responsible for evaluation of the quality of care of patients with cancer, establishment of criteria and short term and long term outcome audits are necessary and depend upon information obtained from the Tumor Registry.

5. Voting members of this committee shall include: representatives from Medical Affairs Administration, Nursing, Tumor Registry, physicians from various clinical services and others as deemed appropriate by the Chairperson.

6. Meets quarterly.

7. Reports annually to Medical Board.
