CHILD PROTECTION COMMITTEE


Approved by Executive Committee of Medical Board as a Standing Committee of Medical Board on November 15, 1989.

STATEMENT OF CHARGE TO COMMITTEE:

1. To act as a resource to the Presbyterian Hospital Administration and the Medical Staff concerning the identification, assessment, reporting and management of cases of suspected child abuse and maltreatment.

2. To assist Hospital Administration in developing a written Presbyterian Hospital child abuse reporting policy and procedure and in developing any other necessary policies and procedures concerning child abuse and maltreatment.

3. To be available for consultation with respect to the establishment and implementation of a Hospital training program for all current and future employees regarding the Hospital's child abuse and maltreatment policies and procedures.

4. To be available for consultation with respect to the establishment and implementation of the Hospital's orientation and continuing education program for medical, nursing and social work personnel of all service units of the Hospital which treat victims of child abuse and maltreatment, including the Emergency, Outpatient and Pediatric Services.

5. To make recommendations to the Executive Committee of the Medical Board or the Medical Board on any topic concerning child abuse or maltreatment.

6. The Committee shall have members appointed by the Medical Board. Members shall include representatives of the Family Center, the Therapeutic Nursery, Child Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Medicine, Surgery, Outpatient and Emergency Services, Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Social Work Services, Risk Management, and Administration.

7. Meets twice a month.

8. Reports semiannually to the Executive Committee of the Medical Board.

9. Reports annually to Medical Board.
