COMBINED MEDICAL NURSING PRACTICE COMMITTEE


Approved by Executive Committee of Medical Board as a Standing Committee on June 6, 1973.

STATEMENT OF CHARGE TO COMMITTEE:

In accordance with contract between the Hospital and the New York State Nurses Association, the Committee shall be comprised of an equal number of representatives from the Council of Nursing Practitioners, the Medical Staff and Nursing Administration, and shall:

1. Address itself to all matters affecting patient care in the Hospital specifically to areas of overlapping responsibilities having implications for patient care;

2. Review at stated intervals, any changes in developments in medical and nursing practice;

3. Have authority to discuss the foregoing and make recommendations for consideration by Hospital administration on:

a. Written policies outlining responsibilities of doctors and nurses in the care of patients.

b. Criteria for determining the role and responsibility of the doctors and the nurses in the performance of certain procedures.

c. Methods for the implementation and communication of decisions reached regarding areas of responsibility.

4. Voting members of this committee shall include: The Executive Vice President for Nursing, representatives from Medical Affairs Administration, Risk Management, Nursing, physicians from the various clinical services and others as deemed appropriate by the Chairperson.

5. Meets quarterly.

6. Reports annually to Medical Board.
