COMMUNICABLE DISEASES AND ANTIBIOTICS COMMITTEE


Approved by Medical Board as a Standing Committee on April 19, 1955 (formerly, Precautions & Medical Asceptics Techniques until January 22, 1952: name changed to Isolation Unit Committee until April 19, 1955).

STATEMENT OF CHARGE TO COMMITTEE:

1. Review and approval of policy and procedures for isolation, outbreak investigation, surveillance activities, reportable diseases, and environmental control.

2. Review and approval of infection control policy and procedure specific to other departments.

3. Monitor the surveillance of nosocomial infections and make recommendations that control the occurrence or spread of such infections.

4. Periodic review of antibiotic usage and sensitivity patterns.

5. Advise on products that impact on infection control.

6. Review practices concerning use of equipment, sterilization, and procedures as they impact on infection control.

7. Assess significant infections occurring in the employee population.

8. Voting members of this committee include: Representatives from Epidemiology, Nursing, and physicians from the various clinical services and others as deemed appropriate by the Chairperson.

9. Meets monthly.

10. Reports monthly to the Executive Committee of the Medical Board.

11. Reports annually to Medical Board.
