Program Summary
The Division of Cardiology at Columbia University Medical Center offers a fellowship in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology that is accredited by the American College of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Each year two new fellows are recruited to the training program that lasts up to two years. Fellows spend time primarily in our busy electrophysiology labs, but dedicated time is also provided for inpatient and outpatient consultative care, conferences, journal clubs and teaching sessions. After intensive clinical training during the first year of the fellowship, fellows become eligible to take the boards in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. During the second year, the emphasis is on research.

Calls/Benefits
- Procedural Experience
- Currently, there are 2 dedicated clinical laboratory rooms for electrophysiology procedures, one primarily for catheter ablation procedures and another primarily for device implantation. Fellows rotate weekly between the 2 rooms. Throughout the year, fellows have hands-on experience on a wide variety of cases ranging from simple radiofrequency ablation procedures for supraventricular tachycardias to complex arrhythmias, congenital cases, to pulmonary vein isolations for atrial fibrillation. Our fellows graduate with approximately 300 ablation cases and 300 device cases, and easily meet ACGME requirements.
Outpatient Clinic
- Fellows see patients in the electrophysiology clinic approximately twice a month. Most patients are referred for ablation or device implantation. Under supervision from the faculty, fellows participate integrally in the peri-procedural care of their patients.
Conferences
Weekly Cardiology Grand Rounds.
Weekly Electrogram Conference.
Weekly Cardiac Electrophysiology Service Rounds, including formal case presentation/journal club talk/topic discussion.
Didactic lectures in Cardiac electrophysiology topics provided by Division of Cardiology.
Cardiac Electrophysiology Research Conference approximately once a week.
