Our goal is to collaborate with those in the CUMC community in the design and implementation of rigorous evaluation of programs and assessment of learners. Our evaluation efforts document the quality, utility, feasibility, effectiveness and overall worth of educational endeavors, and in so doing, provide a tool for program and learner improvement. Because evaluation is multifaceted, we encourage and support the use of both quantitative and qualitative methods. These include formal course evaluations, focus groups, surveys, one on one interviews, content analysis of curricula and experimental-type designs.
Program and Process Evaluation
Program and process evaluation entails a systematic approach to planning, conducting, monitoring, modifying and analyzing a program or program component. Using accepted evaluation models and theories, we work alongside stakeholders in the evaluation around:
- Implementation
- Efficiency
- Effectiveness of the educational program
- Cost-effectiveness and accountability
- Sustainability of new efforts
- Contribution of the program to the attainment of goals
Outcomes and Learner Assessment
Outcomes and learner assessment that emphasizes actual accomplishments of learners, individual and /or as a group. Educational outcomes assessment begins with a statement of the expectations of the learner, typically characterized as knowledge, skills and values within a domain of health care practice. We assist faculty in systematically evaluating teaching and learning by:
- Writing intended learning outcomes that are relevant and measureable
- Developing and utilizing useful, reliable and valid methods of assessment
Analyzing and reporting results that provide evidence of learning and direction for continuous improvement
