Your Kidney Transplant Immunosuppressant Medications


Antifungal Medications

Mycelex Troche®, Nystatin® Swish and Swallow, and Diflucan®

PurposeAll prevent or treat fungal (candida) infections often found in the mouth or genital area.
DosageDosages vary and will be explained to you by the transplant team. Mycelex Troche should be held in your mouth until dissolved. Nystatin should be thoroughly swished around your mouth before swallowing. A small oral sponge can be used to coat the inside of an infant's mouth. Diflucan is available in tablet form.
WhenMycelex and Nystatin are taken 3 times each day until your prednisone is at maintenance level. Diflucan is taken orally once a day. If you miss a dose of any of these medications, take it as soon as you can. Do not double dose. Denture wearers should remove their dentures before taking these medications.
Common Side EffectsDiflucan can elevate the level of Neoral or Prograf in your blood.
