The Division of Dermatologic Surgery provides a complete range of dermatologic surgical services, performed in state-of-the-art surgical suites and utilizing some of the latest equipment available. These services include Mohs micrographic surgery and reconstruction for non-melanoma skin cancer, excisional surgery for malignant melanoma, excision of benign skin lesions, and nail surgery. Our nursing staff specializes in dermatologic surgery and skin cancer, and provides patient education as well as skilled nursing care and patient support. Our surgical patients receive complete oral and written preoperative and postoperative instructions, as well as information about sun avoidance and protection.

Mohs Micrographic Surgery

This is a specialized surgical procedure used to remove many types of skin cancer under local anesthesia. This procedure entails complete microscopic margin control of the removed specimen by the Mohs micrographic surgeon, and provides the highest cure rate, the smallest possible defect, and the lowest chance of recurrence for high risk skin cancers.

Mole Map Technology

Mole map photography is available for patients who have many atypical moles, or who are otherwise are at high risk for melanoma, utilizing CD-Rom based total body photography as a baseline for future examinations. The Mole Map CD allows changes in lesions or the appearance of a new lesion to be rapidly detected, which is of paramount importance in discovering and successfully treating melanoma in its very earliest stages.
