Launch of New Facilities Services Online Work Request System

In our ongoing efforts to serve you better, Facilities Management has recently launched a new facilities services online work request system.

The online request form offers significant advantages over phoning in requests. New technology will enable us to manage data in a smarter way to better understand your needs, more accurately track work orders, provide work order numbers and offer faster solutions.

You can find the online work request system by clicking on the service request link on the Facilities Management homepage. Please bookmark our site for future use.

In addition, we have joined the Call Service Center, so you can call 5-HELP if you have an urgent or emergency service request or if you have a question about Facilities services.

Our goal is to create and support the highest quality environment; balancing the needs of today with sustainability for the future. We strive to make every interaction respectful and professional, to make our responses effective and efficient, and to be leaders in customer service.

Your feedback is always welcome.

Thank you,

P&S Building Main Entrance Renovation Project

Dear CUMC Community,

Commencing September 15th, the main entrance of the P&S Building will undergo physical and cosmetic repair, which will occur in 2 phases. The first phase will result in the closure of the P&S entrance for a two-week period beginning on September 15th and reopening on September 28th. The details for the second phase of work are still being finalized, but we are anticipating a second closure of the P&S entrance sometime in November. Once the schedule is finalized, a follow-up notification will be sent out.

During this time, we ask that you use the Black Building entrance at 650 West 168th Street for entry to the facility. The first floor of P&S will remain open during this time, as will the mailroom. Signs will be posted for your convenience.

If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them to Stephan Butler, Project Manager, at (917)318-3203 or sb2974@columbia.edu.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve our campus!

New York-Presbyterian Hospital Construction Project

Dear CUMC Community,

On August 1, 2008, New York-Presbyterian Hospital began an extensive PH building façade project which is expected to be completed by November 2008.

During this time, major portions of the garden will be fenced off and inaccessible.  Click here to view a drawing depicting the fencing, netting and sidewalk bridges that will be erected in the garden during the project.

This is all the information available at this time, but I will provide additional updates as they become available.

Thank you,

Going Green - Roll Paper Towels

Columbia University Medical Center Facilities is going forward with a purchasing agreement with SCA for Roll Paper Towels.

SCA is considered by many to be the most environmentally-friendly paper company in the world.  Their products are produced nearly exclusively from renewable and recyclable materials and we are very much looking forward to developing a long-lasting relationship with this distributor.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design training (LEED)

On June 12th, members of our Project Management team went to the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) training, as a part of the Medical Center’s commitment to the adoption of sustainable green building and development practices.

The team learned ways to incorporate green initiatives in current projects, such as the use of LEED-certified furniture, energy efficient lighting, sustainable flooring, low VOC paint, and natural wall coverings in the Dean’s suite of the Mailman School of Public Health.
