Welcome to the Optical Microscopy Facility, a core facility of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Facility provides three advanced microscope systems for three-dimensional and four-dimensional imaging. A full-time manager and technical associate provide training and technical support, as well as consultation on experimental design and data interpretation.

All three of the systems can do the following:

  • Two- and three-dimensional fluorescence imaging of living or fixed samples
  • Transmitted-light (phase or DIC) imaging (non-confocal)
  • Time-lapse movies in 2D or 3D
  • GFP imaging
  • Morphometry (measurement of sample dimensions)
  • Quantitative analysis of fluorescence intensity

The three different systems have complementary capabilities. Please feel free to contact the manager, Theresa Swayne, to discuss your experimental setup, and to decide which system is best for your imaging needs. Click on any of the buttons below to learn more about the instruments at the Facility, or about methods to improve your microscopy.
