The Division of Endocrinology consists of a faculty devoted to patient care, teaching, basic and clinical research, and to the practice of endocrinology. With a faculty that numbers over 25 and an affiliated faculty of 17, the Division has broad and deep expertise in virtually all aspects of endocrinology. Funding from a variety of sources permits an extensive array of research projects that encompass multidisciplinary Program Project Grants and a Specialized Center of Research to individual NIH-supported research grants. With support from the NIH, the Division conducts a training program for physicians who seek careers in academic endocrinology. All of the subspecialties of Endocrinology are well represented and are highlighted by programs in Diabetes, Metabolic Bone Diseases, and Neuroendocrinology. The Naomi Berrie Center for Diabetes and the Toni Stabile Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Osteoporosis are two shining examples of the programmatic strengths of the Division. The faculty of the Division are involved not only in local activities specifically related to the divisional agenda but are also involved in many leadership positions in the Department of Medicine. In addition, the faculty are involved in a large number of national and international societies. The Division of Endocrinology has further extended its reach to include an international purview with collaborative research throughout the world including China, Brazil, and Germany. The Fellowship Program is vigorous with applicants being selected from a highly competitive pool. Although the Fellowship Program is heavily based in clinical and basic research, Fellows also gain broad exposure to all aspects of Clinical Endocrinology.
