Why would I want to participate in clinical research at the Berrie Center?
Participating in a research study at our Center has many benefits. First, if you participate, you may help us find answers to important research questions, such as what causes diabetes, what causes diabetic complications or what treatments are best for patients with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.

Second, by participating in a research study you may be able to get new treatments for diabetes that are not yet available in pharmacies. For example, we are currently studying a new form of insulin that is inhaled rather than injected.

Third, many clinical studies offer economic advantages to participating patients. For instance, they may offer you free history and physicals, free laboratory tests, free medicines, free glucose meters or free glucose strips. Most important, though, you may find that when you're enrolled in a research study, you are able to control your blood sugar and follow your diet particularly well. This is true for many of our patients because they realize a healthy regimen is important for the success of the research study.
