Molecular Genetic Analysis of Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Purpose of Study
This study is designed to determine the role of specific genes in obesity and/or Type 2 Diabetes mellitus.

Who is Eligible for This Study?
Age: any age
Type of Diabetes: Type 2
Ideal Candidate: Patients who are severely obese, and/or with an onset of diabetes at less than 25 years of age. Ideally, we would like to have families involved in this study. The ideal family is one in which NOT everyone in the family is obese or diabetic. Families in which one or neither parent is obese/diabetic, and some but not all children are obese/diabetic, are ideal.
Exclusion criteria: None

Time Commitment
We require a one-time meeting from approximately 30 minutes to one hour. On most Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursday, this can be done before or after your regular visit to the Diabetes Center.

*If you do not live in New York, you can still participate in the study, through your own physician or clinic.

Reimbursement
Each family member participating in the study can receive $25.
