Research Interests:
Dr. Regan is director of a large study surveying the microbial colonization of the genital tract of pregnant women. The relationship between vaginal colonization and pre-term delivery is the primary focus of this study; However, other phenomena such as the mechanisms of infection-induced premature labor and treatment of abnormally colonized women, are also of interest. The laboratory headed by Dr. Regan is capable of culturing a wide variety of potential perinatal pathogens. Studies of neonatal infection with such agents as Ureaplasma and Chlamydia are also underway.
