About the Neurological Institute

For nearly 100 years, the Neurological Institute has been an internationally recognized center for the treatment of brain disorders. Its faculty members are among the most renowned experts in neurology in the world, and their research provides among the most innovative and up-to-date treatment opportunities anywhere. In addition, the Department of Neurology at the Neurological Institute is central to Columbia's world-renowned program in neuroscience. Many of its faculty are members of the Center for Neurology and Behavior, and/or have joined appointments in basic science departments such as Pharmacology, Pathology and Cell Biology, and Genetics and Development. The Neurological Institute also has a proud tradition of training academic leaders and practitioners of neurology, and graduates of its educational programs can be found in medical centers throughout North America and around the world. Our department is consistently ranked among the top 5 in the nation.
The Department of Neurology at Columbia University Medical Center is one of the largest in the country. There are nearly 160 faculty members and 46 post-residency fellows representing all subspecialties of neurology. The large size and the commensurate facilities allow for exceptional clinical versatility and expertise as well as research opportunities.
Each of the divisions has clinicians who are nationally and internationally recognized for their accomplishments. Most clinicians are involved in research and clinical trials, thus offering their patients the newest therapeutic options.
