TIRAR Trainee Procedures

Pre-Doctoral Trainees
- Trainee receives formal appointment letter from School of Nursing for each year of appointment. Please keep a copy on file for your records.
- Trainee completes NRSA Statement of Appointment (Form PHS 2271) annually and submits to Ruth Torres, School of Nursing Finance Manager.
- Trainee downloads and completes an /forms/Biosketch.doc">NIH biosketch, submits it to CIRAR Project Coordinator, and updates as needed throughout the appointment year. This is important because updated biosketches for trainees are required annually to be submitted to the NIH with the TIRAR progress report. Download a sample biosketch.
- In coordination with his/her mentor, trainee obtains Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval prior to beginning research activities. When applicable, human subjects Targeted Enrollment and Inclusion Enrollment tables are completed by trainees and kept on file.
- Throughout the appointment year, trainees are responsible for tracking their abstracts, presentations, posters, and publications and keeping copies on files. This information is mandatory in the annual TIRAR progress report.
- At the end of the TIRAR appointment, the trainee completes the NRSA Termination Notice and submits it to Ruth Torres, Director of Finance, School of Nursing. Please note that if a trainee graduates or leaves the program prior to the end of the appointment period, he/she will be required to return a prorated amount of the stipend received.
- Once the trainee's CIRAR mentor has been determined, the trainee obtains a letter of support from the mentor and submits to the CIRAR Project Coordinator.
- Once the trainee's CIRAR Field Experience site and preceptor have been determined, the trainee completes the Field Experience Agreement Form and submits it to the CIRAR Project Coordinator. See role descriptions for details.
- Trainee tracks progress through use of trainee portfolio.
- Sign the TIRAR Trainee Agreement Form.
Postdoctoral Trainees

- Trainee completes NRSA Payback Agreement and submits to Ruth Torres, School of Nursing Finance Manager.
- Trainee completes the NRSA Annual Payback Activities Certification (APAC) annually, at the end of each appointment period, and submits to Ruth Torres, School of Nursing Finance Manager.
- Trainee downloads and completes an NIH biosketch, submits it to CIRAR Project Coordinator, and updates as needed throughout the appointment year. TIRAR is not currently accepting applications, but if you are interested in applying at a future date or have questions about the program, please contact Bevin Cohen at 212-342-4111 and/or complete the Postdoctoral Application Form below and submit to Ms. Cohen. Selections for traineeships are made based on the following criteria:
- Articulated interest and commitment to interdisciplinary work
- Research interests related to antimicrobial resistance
- Promise of a productive, fundable research career, e.g., publications, previous research experience or grants, academic success
- Strong support from other scholars in the field
- Research interests which can be supported by a CIRAR/TIRAR mentoring team
