Application Process

The Combined BS/MS Program (ETP) is designed to prepare students for a career as a professional advanced practice nurse. This fact sheet provides details about the application process including transcripts, GRE scores, references, a personal goal statement, and prerequisites for the Combined BS/MS Program (ETP). Applicants are advised to provide detailed information regarding their completion of prerequisites outlined on the second page of the application form and transcripts to attest to the successful completion of all required course work. Syllabi of various courses undertaken may be requested to attest to the comprehensiveness of the curriculum encountered. Only applications which have all required documents (application, fee, personal goal statement, all postsecondary transcripts, 3 references, resume/CV, and GRE scores) will be reviewed for prerequisites and an admissions decision. Supporting materials must be submitted by November 15 for consideration for the following May.

Transcripts

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University.
    Please provide official transcripts of baccalaureate level course work completed and in progress. If a student transferred or received a degree from a school that accepted credits from a previous school, both transcripts are required. Official transcripts that attest to registration for courses in progress will expedite your file for decision and are requested. Also, provide an official transcript to update your file regarding all course work completed for a grade and that attest to your graduation once posted, whichever comes first.
  • Grade Point Average (GPA):
    Applicants with strong academic achievements
  • GRE (General Test):
    Satisfactory GRE scores
  • References:
    Three references attesting to applicant’s academic ability and potential
  • Personal Goal Statement:
    Personal goal statement that is congruent with program goals (two pages, double-spaced, 12 point font)

Prerequisites

  • A grade of at least C must be attained for all prerequisite course work.
  • English Composition, 3 credits
  • Life Sciences, 9 -12 credits
    • Anatomy and Physiology (required)
      The curriculum must include all systems and functions of the human body. In various settings the subject matter may be completed in one or two semesters. Laboratory experience is considered an asset.
    • Microbiology
    • Chemistry, 2 semesters (at least one organic course)
          Required only for ETP Anesthesia applicants.
    • Physics, 1 semester
          Required only for ETP Anesthesia applicants.

    • Psychology, 3 credits
          Developmental Psychology (lifespan), Introduction to Psychology, or General Psychology.
  • Humanities, 6-9 credits
    • Literature, History, Language, or the Arts
  • Statistics, 3 credits
        An introduction to statistics. Various discipline emphases considered.
  • Social/Behavioral Sciences, 3-6 credits
        Sociology, Anthropology, Advanced Psychology et al.
