We take many factors into consideration, including financial need and academic promise, when determining our awards. It is the intent of the school to ensure that students meeting admission requirements will have sufficient funds to pursue and complete their nursing education.
Who Should Apply?
Qualifying for financial aid depends on a number of factors. The only way to know if you will be eligible for grants, federal work-study, loans, and scholarships is to apply for aid. Regardless of income and assets, many options are available to help pay educational expenses.
How do I apply for financial aid?
For new students the process begins when you apply. Any applicant interested in financial aid must indicate that on the admissions application.
All new students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)in order to receive a financial aid package. To complete your FAFSA, you will need Columbia University's School Code: 002707.
Returning students must complete and file a Renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The Renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is designed for students who applied for aid the previous year. To access your Renewal FAFSA data, you will also need your Federal Student Aid PIN. If you have previously received a PIN but have lost or forgotten it, please request a duplicate PIN .
International students do not complete a FAFSA. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid about potential funding options.
TIPS FOR COMPLETING THE FAFSA:
Beginning February 5, 2012, financial aid applicants will be able to directly import tax filing information into the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. The tool, available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, simplifies the application process and prevents data entry errors. It is the preferred method for providing the required tax information.
The IRS Data Retrieval Tool accesses your 2011 IRS tax return and imports the relevant information into your online FAFSA. To use the tool, please note:
If you opt out of using the tool, or are not eligible to use it, you will need to submit to the University a 2011 federal tax return transcript obtained directly from the IRS.
Read the instructions. At first glance, the FAFSA form can appear confusing and complicated. In actuality, the form is easy to fill out. The questions are straightforward, and the instructions make specific references to each question.
Approximately one-third of all financial aid applicants are selected by either the U.S. Department of Education or the Office of Financial Aid to verify the accuracy of information provided on the FAFSA. If you have been selected for verification, your offer of assistance is tentative, pending the completion of the verification process. If you have been selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education, you are notified as soon as you complete the FAFSA, on your Student Aid Report (SAR). It is important that any information requested on your SAR is submitted to the Financial Aid office immediately to avoid delays on your financial aid package or the disbursement of your financial aid awards. If you are selected for verification by the school, you will be contacted by the Financial Aid office.
You will be required to complete a verification worksheet and provide a copy of you and/or your parents’ federal income tax returns. Upon receipt of the required materials, we will finalize the review of your application for financial aid. The verification forms are available in the “Forms” section located on the left side of this page.
Should the verified financial information differ significantly from the original information provided on the FAFSA application, your aid may have to be adjusted. Please be sure to respond to requests for follow-up documentation in a timely manner to avoid delays in applying your financial aid as a credit to your student account.
*NEW* Graduate Students
All graduates students must complete a “Graduate Student Supplemental Financial Aid Form”.
This form is available on the financial aid system, NetPartner. To access NetPartner, you will need your Columbia University personal identification number (also known as the C#, Student ID, or PID). New students receive the PID from the Admissions office. It is emailed to applicants after an applicant has been offered enrollment. Returning or continuing students can find their PID on SSOL. Once you log into SSOL, click on the top left link Academic Profile. Underneath viewing options, change from “hide my name and personal data” to “show my name and personal data”. Click on right link, Update View. Under “Identifiers” you will see PID: C##########. Once you login to NetPartner, copy your PID to the Student ID. Your Password is your date of birth written as MM/DD/YYYY.
The Graduate Supplemental Financial Aid Form must be completed before you are able to receive a financial aid package. The form will ask for your credit allocations for each term enrolled and if you are requesting student health insurance. You will need to meet with your program director each year and review your program plan and credit allocations for each term are correct.
