Speaker: Kathleen Carley, PhD, Professor, Department of Social & Decision
Sciences, Carnegie Mellon University

Abstract: Dr. Carley’s work examines how groups, organizations, and societies
change over time.  Her research combines ideas from organizational
theory, sociology, social networks, distributed artificial intelligence,
graph theory, communication, computational sociology, and computational
organization theory. She uses a wide range of methodologies including:
computational analysis, simulation, social networks, statistics,
computer aided text analysis, and analysis of archival data.

Abstract: Steven Skoczen, the developer of IMPACT 4, a suite of software tools to develop online surveys including those for preference assessment and those that include
ACASI (Audio Computer-Assisted Structured Interviewing) technology, provided a general overview of the application of the technology and the technical aspects of the suite of tools.


CEBP News

1. February 13, 2006 CEBP External Advisory Board meeting took place on February 13, 2006 at School of Nursing Columbia University. At the meeting, review of past accomplishment followed by three pilot studies by Choi (year 4), Larson (year 4), and Capili (Year 5) was presented.

2. The center pilot investigator (year 5), Bernadette Capili, has been awarded NIH funding for her RO3 proposal titled “HIV, Lipids and Dietary Strategies”. The method of nutrition analysis for the R03 was developed in her Center-funded pilot.

3. March 27, 2006 The former RHeaDI Program trainee, Jacqueline Merrill, has been awarded Pfizer Public Health Fellowship for two years.

4. April 17, 2006, Suzanne Bakken (Center Director) and her research team were recognized for their work on decision support systems for Advanced Practice Nurses by Computerworld Magazine as a 2006 Computerworld Honors Laureate.
