1. Recent Grant Awards
During calendar year 2004, 11 new sponsored projects totaling over $4 million were awarded to School of Nursing faculty members. This is more than triple the amount received in during calendar year 2002. Recent grants funded include:
- Dr. Leanne Currie received $20,000 from the Columbia Alliance for Healthcare Management (CAHM) for her project, “Evaluation of Fall and Injury Prevention Project for Adult Patients in the Acute Care Setting.”
- Dr. Currie is also PI of a sub-project of CAHM, recently funded ($2,500) by the Alpha Zeta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, entitled “Evaluation of Personal Digital Assistant and Tablet PC-based data Collection for Hospital Quality Assurance.”
- Dr. Susan Lin received 2 years of funding from the Oncology Nursing Society for her pilot project, “The NP's Role in Preventive Care and Treatment for Cancer.” Total funding for this project is $10,000.
- A School of Nursing conference grant (PI: Dr. Elaine Larson) in the amount of $24,775 from the AHRQ to support its sponsorship of the Eastern Nursing Research Society 17 th Annual Scientific Sessions to be held at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City on April 7-9, 2005.
- Dr. Joyce Anastasi is Principal Investigator on 2 grants which recently received superior scores. “Acupuncture for Chronic Nausea in Pts with HIV” received a score in the top 1.7 percentile and the official Notice of Grant Award is expected soon. “Acu/Moxa for Peripheral Neuropathy in HIV” received a competitive score and is waiting funding.
- Dr. Suzanne Bakken's application “Mobile Decision Support for Advanced Practice Nursing” received a competitive score and a Notice of Grant Award is expected soon.
- The School of Nursing 's “Center for Evidence-based Practice in the Underserved” (PI: Dr. Suzanne Bakken) expects to fund 4 new pilot projects in the coming fiscal year. 2 new pilot grants have already been funded beginning 5/1/05 :
- “Feasibility and Validation of ACASI Instrument with Low Literacy Families in Clinic Settings,” Co-PIs: Dr. Mary Byrne and Dr. Judy Honig ($7,578)
- “Nutritional Intake Related to Lipid Health in HIV/AIDS: A secondary analysis,” PI: Dr. Bernadette Capili ($6,517)
