7. Transitioning to Electronic NIH Grant Submissions
The NIH has begun the process of transitioning to an electronic application submission process via grants.gov. The School of Nursing has already submitted 2 electronic grant applications this spring. June 1 submissions of R03s and R21s required electronic submission. The schedule of other mechanisms to transition to the SF424(R&R) application package and electronic submission can be found here: http://era.nih.gov/ElectronicReceipt/files/Electronic_receipt_timeline_Ext.pdf
The National Institutes of Health has a website specifically dedicated to the electronic grant submission process. In addition, it offers links to several online streaming videos which cover the eRA Commons web site, electronic submission overview, submitting a grant through grants.gov, and the SF 424 R&R application package.
In order to avoid delays in grant submissions and possible non-submissions because of failure to meet the strict electronic deadline, we are strongly encouraging that principal investigators have the final, complete versions of their electronic grant applications ready a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the deadline. More information about changes in policy as a result of the transition to the electronic submission process will be disseminated during the next several months. If you have any questions or concerns about the implications of the new electronic submission process, please contact Dr. Elaine Larson, Associate Dean for Research at CUSON or Kristine Kulage, Director of Research Resources. A fall 2006 ORR CE Course specifically to discuss the new electronic grant submission is planned (see newsletter item #9).
