2. CUSON Grants Fund Pilot Projects

 The School of Nursing ’s “Center for Evidence-based Practice in the Underserved” (PI: Dr. Suzanne Bakken) funded 4 new pilot projects for its fifth year:

  • “Feasibility and Validation of ACASI Instrument with Low Literacy Families in Clinic Settings,” PI: Dr. Mary Byrne
  • “Nutritional Intake Related to Lipid Health in HIV/AIDS: A secondary analysis,” PI: Dr. Bernadette Capili
  • “Evaluation of a Personal Digital Assistant for Fall-Injury Risk Assessment,” PI: Dr. Leanne Currie
  • “Evaluation of a Brief Mental Health Screening Tool in a Prison Population,” PI: Dr. Kristine Gebbie
  • In addition, Dr. Kristine Gebbie received matching funds from the New York State AIDS Institute to supplement work on her CEBP pilot study

The School of Nursing ’s Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Antimicrobial Resistance(PI: Dr. Elaine Larson) funded 4 new pilot projects during its first year:

  • “Impact of Guidelines for Empiric Antibiotic Use: Costs, Resistance, and Clinical Outcomes” PI: Dr. E. Yoko Fuyura (Clinical Fellow, Division of Infectious Diseases)
  • “Interdisciplinary Study on the Impact of Rapid Detection of Antimicrobial Resistant Pathogens” PI: Dr. Richard C. Huard (Clinical Scientist, Clinical Microbiology Service)
  • “Patterns of Antiretroviral Resistance among HIV Isolated in the Dominican Republic and New York City ” PI: Dr. Jonathan K. Joseph (Clinical Fellow, Division of Infectious Diseases)
  • “Improving Infection Control for Chronic Diseases: Using the Interdisciplinary Care Team for Patients with Cystic Fibrosis as a Model” PI: Dr. Samiya Razvi (Clinical Pediatric Pulmonology Fellow).
