Welcome to Maternal Fetal Medicine

Overview

Ronald WapnerThousands of women have received outstanding care during pregnancy from the nationally recognized specialists at the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. From routine screening tests to the most advanced diagnosis and management of high-risk pregnancies, we provide a comprehensive range of quality services for both mother and baby.

Our team of more than a dozen physicians and highly trained clinical nurses, genetic counselors and midwives works together to provide each patient with a coordinated program of care to meet individual needs.

We offer specialized expertise in ultrasound imaging and the most current prenatal diagnostic procedures for advanced fetal assessment. Our team includes premier specialists in the management of multiple pregnancies, fetal anomalies and other challenging conditions that may arise during pregnancy. As part of the Sloane Hospital for Women at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, we are equipped to manage pre-existing and newly detected maternal medical complications such as hypertension, thyroid disease, cardiac disease and diabetes.

In addition to our specialized services, we cooperate with experts in pediatrics, pediatric surgery, pediatric cardiology, neonatology, genetics and other areas to expand the choice of services available to our patients. Close collaboration with Children's Hospital of New York-Presbyterian ensures that both mother and baby have access to a full range of diagnostic and treatment options.

As part of one of the nation's leading academic institutes, MFM is engaged in innovative research studies such as the FASTER Trial, which is evaluating several new screening tests that may allow for earlier detection of fetal abnormalities. Also, as part of a world-famous teaching hospital — Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons — we provide the superior training and hands-on experience that attracts top residents and fellows.

I am pleased to introduce you to our services and invite you to contact us for more information.
