Ultrasound and Prenatal Diagnostic Procedures

  • Ultrasound, fetal echocardiography, Doppler ultrasound and genetic sonography provide detailed images for fetal assessment
  • Maternal serum and ultrasound screening for early detection of fetal abnormalities
  • Prenatal diagnosis using amniocentesis, CVS and fetal blood sampling

Advanced Maternal and Fetal Care

  • High-risk management for all complicated pregnancies
  • Management of multiple pregnancies and any complications that may arise
  • Management of maternal medical complications such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiac disease, seizure disorders and thyroid disease
  • Fetal procedures such as in utero fetal blood transfusion, multifetal reduction procedures or the placement of a catheter for poorly functioning fetal kidneys

Genetic Counseling

  • Formal genetic consultation for individual and family history risk assessment and discussion of prenatal screening and diagnostic options such as amniocentesis and CVS
  • Pre-conception counseling to review individual medical history and discuss potential obstetrical challenges

Transferring Patients

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is known regionally and globally for critical care services as well as specialties not found in many area hospital. We routinely receive patients transferred from other medical institutions, and the process of transferring and transporting patients from another hospital to ours becomes vitally important.

If you need to arrange for the transfer of a patient, please call the *NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Physician Access Transfer Center at 800-NYP-STAT*. This number is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and staff can facilitate the consult and acceptance processes to the Hospital. All patient transfers must be initiated by the patient's Attending Physician of Record.

  • Reliable service by dedicated ambulance and transport team members
  • Transition planning to ensure a safe and timely transfer for our patients
  • Comprehensive management including fetal evaluation and monitoring
  • Timely verbal and written feedback to the referring physician on the patient status and progress

Outreach

The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine has established relationships with numerous providers and medical centers and is actively expanding that network, which currently includes more than 20 affiliated institutions.

A Firm Foundation

The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine is a specialized section within Sloane Hospital for Women, an innovative institution that has been caring for women for more than a century. In addition, as part of New York-Presbyterian Hospital, we are able to coordinate services with international experts in areas such as adult cardiology, genetics, reproductive endocrinology and psychiatry.

Caring for Mothers and Babies

At Sloane Hospital for Women, our patients benefit from the resources of a specialized hospital for mothers. As a partner with the famous Children's Hospital of New York-Presbyterian, we also offer the resources of a specialized hospital for babies. Our renowned specialists provide services in neonatology, pediatrics, pediatric surgery and pediatric cardiology amongst others. This collaboration enables the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine to provide access to every possible diagnostic and therapeutic option for both mother and baby.

Regional Perinatal Center

The State of New York has designated us as a Regional Perinatal Center, the highest hospital classification level. In awarding this status, the State affirms that our expertise, treatments and skills enable us to accept and care for the most difficult and highest-risk cases.

Training in MFM

The three-year Fellowship Training Program provides extensive clinical and research experience. Graduates of our nationally recognized Fellowship Program are positioned to become future leaders in obstetrics and maternal fetal medicine.
