Basic Treatments

basic treatments Many basic treatments are offered at the CWRC. These procedures may be effective in helping patients who are trying to conceive achieve pregnancy in cases where there are female or male factors that limit fertility.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Intrauterine insemination (IUI), also known as “artificial insemination,” may be recommended in cases where there are problems with the woman's cervical mucus, the male partner's sperm (such as low sperm count or poor motility), erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, or other conditions. IUI is a relatively simple procedure during which the male partner's sperm is placed directly into the uterus, at the point where the fallopian tubes begin. This procedure is performed near the time of ovulation.

For IUI, the male partner will be asked to provide a semen sample. The semen will be processed through sperm-washing to separate sperm from the seminal fluid, and this processed sperm will then be placed in the woman's cervix, or high in the cavity of the uterus, using a thin catheter. IUI may be repeated if pregnancy is not achieved.
