Allergy and Immunology

The Division of Allergy and Immunology is comprised of four attending physicians with a wide array of interests in this field. The division evaluates patients both on an inpatient and outpatient basis. We assess patients with conditions such as asthma, rhinitis, drug reactions, hives, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, food allergies, semen allergies, chronic sinusitis, hereditary angioneurotic edema, anaphylaxis, insect allergies, and latex allergies. We also evaluate patients with primary immunodeficiencies and eosinophilic gastroenteritis.

The division performs various allergy testing to help identify allergy triggers. This includes skin prick testing, intradermal testing, food allergy testing, and patch testing. We also perform rhinoscopy and pulmonary function testing. If indicated, we perform blinded food and drug challenges.

The division is involved with research in the area of food allergies, specifically in the area of peanut and nut allergies. We are performing studies on asthma in the inner city. We are also involved in a clinical trial involving a potential revolutionary treatment for Hereditary Angioneurotic edema
