The
Division of Pediatric Cardiology trains pediatric cardiology fellows to
become academic pediatric cardiologists. The program has been in existence
under the auspices of the division head for 28 years and has trained more
than 60 physicians who have become renowned pediatric cardiologists throughout
the United States and who hold positions in many prestigious academic centers
throughout the country. The training program is three to four years in duration
and is highly competitive. It accepts physicians who have completed their
training in general pediatrics and are now prepared to undertake a program
to become academic pediatric cardiologists. The program includes intensive
training in the first two years to develop clinical skills in pre-operative
and post-operative evaluation and management of pediatric patients, cardiac
catheterizations, echocardiography, ECG and arrhythmia evaluation, and exercise
physiology. In the third and fourth years, the trainees participate in very
structured research programs, which may either involve clinical research
in one of the clinical areas or basic research in one of the research laboratories
in which the Division has affiliations.
The trainees accepted into our program are from the United States and also
come to us from throughout the international medical community.
