| Dr. Rosenbaum is an Associate Program Director of the General Clinical Research Center and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. He has a longstanding interest in clinical research relating to alterations of energy expenditure to body weight. He has worked with Dr. Leibel and Dr. Horlick in a clinical study regarding the role of leptin and body composition. He currently is a co PI on an NIH/NIDDK funded grant in human obesity. He has just completed a pilot study designed to examine the effects of supervised exercise and nutritional and health education on metabolic risk factors for type II diabetes mellitus in children. The entire 8th grade class in the El Camino program at M.S. 54 in Manhattan underwent a 5 minute intravenous glucose tolerance test, as well as measurements of other diabetes risk factors including BMI and lipid profiles, before and after participating in a controlled nutrition and health education and exercise program as part of their science and athletic curricula. This pilot study demonstrated both the feasibility and positive aspects of working within our community. He is also the recipient of an AMDeC grant to study the Molecular Genetics of Type II Diabetes in Children. He helps train and supervise our fellows in the execution of clinical projects which will utilize our General Clinical Research Center and outreach into the community. He is Board certified in Pediatric Endocrinology. |
