Oncology
The Herbert Irving Division of Child & Adolescent Oncology (HIDCAO) is recognized as one of the largest and most distinguished pediatric oncology programs not only in the New York metropolitan area, but throughout the United States. The division has a long, rich history of excellence; it was one of the first academic divisions of oncology in the country and was a founding member of the Children’s Cancer Group, the first national consortium to treat children with cancer on collaborative clinical trials. Today we provide care to more than 150 children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer each year and we are ranked by U. S. News and World report as one of the best pediatric oncology programs in the country. The division is an integral part of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute designated program of excellence.
The mission of the division is to provide unparalleled patient care for children and adolescents with cancer; to perform cutting edge clinical, translational and basic research that will contribute to our understanding of pediatric malignancies; and to educate the next generation of pediatric and adolescent oncologists. The division is comprised of health care professionals including physicians, basic scientists, fellows, behavioral psychologists, integrative and complementary medicine practitioners, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, research nurses, social workers, child-life specialists, and administrative personnel.
