History of the ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCE CENTER

The Environmental Resource Center at I.S. 318, located in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is a multi-faceted facility that includes a computerized science laboratory and an extensive active-learning vivarium. It serves as the nucleus for the school science department and is the home of several environmental programs. The original facility, dating back over 20 years, included an ecology program for grades six through eight. The Ecology Center expanded to accommodate a greater number of students, visiting schools, and has sprouted a community garden (Project Roots), a compost program and other projects, as seen listed below. This introductory home page contains a sampling of a few of the historical science-related happenings at the school. This web site was created by Roy Arezzo and reflects many of the projects that developed between 1991 - 2000. To get more recent information contact IS 318 directly.

Web Site Facilitator, Roy Arezzo has moved on to another school and will continue to maintain this web site as long as there is a response to the material. Although Roy continues to work with many related projects, the information on this web site serves more as a history of the programs. To get current information about IS 318's ongoing environmental projects please contact the school directly.
