Costa Rica

The Woodrow Wilson Leadership Program sponsors a National Fellowship Program for science teachers to visit the Rain Forest and participate in environmental science field research projects, leadership training and professional development in teaching.

Summer 2001: The program started with orientation and science talks in San Jose, the Countries' Capitol City. We were broken into three groups and sent to three different biological field stations. I was in group 2 which started their adventure at Palo Verde National Park in Guana, North Western Costa Rica. After our stint in the dry tropical forest we were treated to some holiday in Arenal. In our second week we traveled to the tropical rain forest of La Selva Biological Station.

In Memory of our friend Tom of New Mexico who passed suddenly not long after our Costa Rica trip.

In our short time together we were fortunate to share Tom's passion for botany and teaching - he will be sorely missed by many and our condolences go out to all his loved ones and students.
