Measures of Distinction 
Appointments 

Of the 25 departments in P&S, 15 new chairs have been appointed and several searches are under way in other departments. Department chairs appointed during 1995-96: 

Dr. Stanley Chang was appointed chairman of ophthalmology, joining his alma mater from Cornell University, where he was professor of ophthalmology. 

Dr. Robert B. Kass was appointed chairman of pharmacology. He is former professor of physiology and pediatrics at the University of Rochester. 

Dr. Margaret Wood became the first woman to chair a clinical department at P&S. Dr. Wood, one of the nation's leading experts on anesthesiology, left Vanderbilt University to chair anesthesiology. She is the E.M. Papper Professor of Anesthesiology. 

Dr. John M. Driscoll Jr. was named chairman of pediatrics, becoming the 15th new chairman appointed at P&S in the 1990s. 

Other appointments in 1995-96: 

Dr. Cynthia Hughes Harris was appointed director of the P&S Occupational Therapy Program. 

Dr. Karen Antman was named director of the Columbia-Presbyterian Cancer Center.
