Investigating the world's therapeutic traditions
Since our founding, the Rosenthal Center has been dedicated to conducting scientific research on traditional, complementary and alternative medicine. By using a broad spectrum of research approaches - including basic science, clinical trials, surveys, ethnobotanical studies and information science - we investigate the mechanisms of action, effectiveness and safety of CAM treatments. From women's health to pain management to aging, our research programs help identify, examine and substantiate what options work best and how they can complment conventional medicine.
Some of our projects include:
- Basic Science: Examining the effectos of herbal remedies on breast cancer
- Clinical Trials: Investigating the effects of black cohosh on menopausal hot flashes, and studying the effects of dietary phytoestrogens on cardiovascular and bone health
- Ethnobotanical Research: Exploring how traditional healers use botanical remedies for women's health
- Informatics: Developing one of the nation's leading online CAM resources
- Survey Research: Conducting a national, multi-ethnic survey of women's use of complementary and alternative medicine
- International Collaborations: Investigating diverse medical traditions with researchers and pracittioners in china, Hong Kong, India and Italy
