Department of Biostatistics
The Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) in Biostatistics

The primary educational objective of the M.P.H. degree in biostatistics is to provide a strong general public health orientation along with a background in quantitative methods. This program is intended primarily for public health specialists who wish to use and adapt statistical procedures for health and medical care analysis, or who wish to serve in a technical capacity as resource persons and collaborators in field and programmatic studies. It should be noted that the M.P.H. degree is designed for those seeking a career in public health, rather than a career in biostatistics. Students interested in biostatistics for their careers are advised to consider the M.S./T.M. degree which provides a stronger mathematical foundation in statistical methods.

For many candidates the M.P.H. degree will not be their first professional degree. Many students enter the M.P.H. degree program with previous master's or doctoral degrees or with varying years of practical experience in professional fields related to public health.

On a full-time basis, the M.P.H. can be completed in one-and-a-half to two years. Full and part-time students are expected to complete all program requirements within five years.

For applications to the M.P.H. degree program, write to:
