About the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University
The Mailman School of Public Health, COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY is one of the first accredited schools of public health in the country. Throughout its history, the School has been a national and international leader in many areas of public health research, education and service. In March 2003, the School was ranked 6th among national schools of public health by the editors of US News & World Report.
The School is comprised of six departments (Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Policy and Management, Population and Family Health and Sociomedical Sciences) and 300 multidisciplinary faculty. The School’s Master (M.P.H and M.S.) and Doctoral (Dr.PH and Ph.D.) graduates are well prepared to address the complex health issues of the day, including AIDS and STD’s, cancer, health care organization, financing and marketing, international health systems, environmental contamination, teen pregnancy, the effectiveness of new drugs, emerging infections, population growth, refugee health and women’s reproductive health, among others.
