Mailman School of Public Health Launching a Career Sybil Eng
“In addition to gaining robust training in methods and statistics, my professors and peers at the Mailman School helped me understand the importance of linking classroom lessons to real-world situations.”

Sybil Eng, PhD '02, MPH '96

“Our career education program complements the academic curriculum, ensuring that Mailman School graduates acquire not only exceptional public health skills and knowledge, but also essential lifelong career management skills.”

Launching a Career

The curriculum at the Mailman School prepares students for a variety of career opportunities in the field of public health. Graduates pursue careers at health agencies, academic and research institutions, and nonprofit organizations, as well as with consulting firms, pharmaceutical, and other for-profit companies. In addition to being well prepared to enter the public health workforce, Mailman graduates are also positioned for acceptance into other graduate and professional schools. Each year, some graduates defer employment to pursue additional advanced degrees in public health, medicine, social and behavioral sciences, business, and law with the goal of a future career that is informed by a public health perspective.

Mailman School Excellence
Employers based in the New York metropolitan area, across the country and around the world recruit Mailman School graduates to join their ranks. Alan Silverman, manager of the United Nation Learning Strategy Program at UNAIDS, recruited Mailman graduates to assist with the rollout of the program.

"I was so impressed with the graduates’ level of public health knowledge and their writing, presentation, and organizational skills that UNAIDS is now collaborating with the School’s Office of Career Services and the Global Health track to implement the first UNAIDS internship program in our offices worldwide."
