Richard Anderson teaches one section of the Department's introductory course in healthcare economics (P6503), a requirement for all HPM students. This course provides an intensive introduction to economics and delves into the unique issues faced by the healthcare marketplace, including insurance, moral hazard and public goods. Professor Anderson is also Assistant Professor of Economics at New Jersey City University and Lecturer at Rutgers University.

"Teaching this course has allowed me to meet students from Health Policy and Management and other departments in the School. I've been impressed with their intellectual curiosity and with their ability to think through tough concepts in health economics. The course provides students with a foundation in a topic that should be familiar to all healthcare professionals."

Katherine Garrett works as an independent consultant on quality, performance improvement strategic planning, and program development. She brings her experience with senior leadership at healthcare and non-profit organizations and government agencies in New York and New Jersey to the classroom in Quality of Healthcare. This course provides an overview of the measurement of quality across different parts of the healthcare system, including primary, long-term, acute, behavioral health and chronic disease care. It is relevant to managers working in a variety of provider and payor settings. Prof. Garrett brings to students her experience as Assistant Vice President of Regulatory and Professional Affairs at the Greater New York Hospital Association and as Senior Director of Corporate Policy and Corporate Quality Management Services.

In addition to his position at the Mailman School, Prof. Leach is Adjunct Professor at Brooklyn Law School and lectures before various international labor groups.

"As a lawyer who enforces the statutory protection offered workers in this country, I spend a great deal of time dealing with thorny legal issues and hotly contested disputes. It has been a treat for me to leave that world and spend time with intelligent and amazing students who have taken my class over the years. They have allowed me to see that law I work to uphold through their eyes. Each of these students has had a great impact on me, especially the students who have come from other countries, bringing with them experience and knowledge of how employment issues are handled in their homelands. The sharing of these experiences has enriched the classroom experience."
