Previous honorees include James Wolfensohn, former president of the World Bank, Kofi Annan, former secretary general of the U.N., Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Ellen Chesler, former board chair of the IWHC and senior fellow at the Open Society Institute. This year's gala was underwritten by De Beers, the world's leading diamond company.

Since 2002, IWHC has supported INSGENAR, which is dedicated to the defense of women's and children's human rights.
