ALLAN ROSENFIELD RECEIVES CHILD HEALTH AWARD FROM
THE COALITION FOR SCHOOL-BASED PRIMARY CARE

March 3, 2006-- The Coalition for School-Based Primary Care awarded Allan Rosenfield, MD, dean, Mailman School of Public Health with their inaugural Public Health Leadership Award, honoring Dr. Rosenfield for his contributions to the advancement of school-based primary care.

Dr. Rosenfield has been an advocate of school-based health clinics (SBHC) on the local and national levels. Fostering support for the creation of the Coalition, Dr. Rosenfield worked to maintain medical school SBHC training grants and re-establish federal funding for SBHC. His work for SBHC ranges from behind the scenes support to writing letters to the Governor requesting $15 million from the New York State budget.

Addressing Dr. Rosenfield, Shirley Gordon, executive director, the New York State Coalition for School-based Primary Care; and former executive director, Family Planning Advocates of New York State, stated, "You have been renouned for your extraordinary contributions in the field of maternal and child health - particularly related to women's health and reproductive health ... your support over these many years has benefited hundreds of thousands of underserved children and youth across the state, and beyond, who rely on school-based health centers as their only viable safety net." Ms. Gordon also complimented Dr. Rosenfield on his unequaled ability as a spokesman for maternal and child health and his commitment to public health causes.

The New York State Coalition for School-based Primary Care works to integrate school-based healthcare into the healthcare and education systems.
