Jalan Washington

 

Issues affecting the health of young people of color have been especially important to Jalan Washington for as long as she can recall. A recent graduate of the University of Virginia and current Mailman School of Public Health MPH student in the Health Promotion track, Jalan remains actively involved in initiatives that help to illuminate issues such as teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, and HIV risk.

As a Peer Health Educator during her undergraduate years, Jalan provided one-on-one counseling and facilitated group health outreaches.

As a graduate student, she holds several offices with organizations focusing on reproductive rights including the Advocates for Youth Young Women of Color Leadership Council and Public Health Students for Reproductive Freedom.

Jalan is also involved in issues that affect communities of color and currently serves as the Co-presiding Officer of the Black and Latino Student Caucus. Jalan is extremely committed to provide more comprehensive sexual education than she and many of her peers received. Her main motivations is to ensure that the next generation has the skills and knowledge to make healthy and educated decisions. continues to be her main motivation.
