Master of Public Health (M.P.H.)
Aging and Public Health

A new M.P.H. track in Aging and Public Health began in 1999. This program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the special public health challenges of an aging population. It offers a public health perspective on aging that encompasses both applied and policy dimensions.

In addition to the required Public Health core curriculum, students will take courses designed to address aging related quality of life issues, successful aging, life course transitions, elder based health promotion and disease prevention efforts, chronic disease and disability, technology and health, bioethical issues related to health care and the elderly, and public health issues in special aging populations.

A master's essay and practicum are also required. This program is designed for students who have an interest in aging related concerns and issues and are seeking a public health perspective. The program is also relevant to a broad array of public health professionals including those who are providing clinical services, managers and administrators of aging related institutions, community based social service and health care agencies, geriatric clinicians, and health services researchers.

For more information about Aging and Public Health, please contact the track coordinator, Victoria Raveis (vhr1@columbia.edu).
