If you are interested in applying for federal student loans but have not completed either the FAFSA or the Columbia Aid Application, or if you have completed your applications but have not received your financial aid award letter, please contact us immediately at (212) 305-4113. Please be advised that you must be enrolled at least half-time (6-11 credits) to maintain Federal Government Loan eligibility. Federal regulations prevent the Bursar's office to disburse any type of loan funds to your student account if the Entrance Interview and a Masters Promissory Note have not been completed. Federal Stafford Loans (Subsidized, Unsubsidized, and Graduate Plus) Federal Stafford Loans are disbursed in two payments (refer to your award letter for fall and spring loan amounts). Federal Stafford Loan proceeds can be received in two ways, electronically, or by check. Electronic Transfers (EFT) are automatically credited to your Bursar's account. If your loan (Federal or Private) comes in the form of a check, you will be notified by the Office of Student Accounts, located at 650 W.168th Street, Room 141, during the first few weeks of the semester. Federal Perkins Loans If a Perkins Loan is part of your financial aid package, and you have accepted the loan, you must complete a Perkins Promissory Note. The promissory note is available online at: http://ssol.columbia.edu/. Scholarships Any scholarships that are part of your financial aid package will be credited to your account after the add/drop period and will be disbursed based on full-time enrollment. Deferments If you are interested in deferring your undergraduate loans, please submit your deferment form to the Office of the Registrar, 650 W.168th Street, Room 141, for completion after you register. Refunds If your student account has a credit balance and you wish to apply for a refund you can make the request through Student Services Online at https://ssol.columbia.edu/.
