Interviews

Interviews will be held in The Department of Urology, located on the 11 th floor of the Herbert Irving Cancer Center at The Columbia University Medical Center. For full directions to the medical center click onto the directions page found on the homepage of this website.

This year interviews will be held on December 7th and 8th. In addition, on the evening prior to each interview, the house staff arrange an informal gathering at a restaurant in Manhattan .

After an introductory lecture from the chairman, each applicant will be interviewed by the faculty. The house staff will be available for informal discussions throughout the day. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Please note that parking is provided during the interview day by the program in the hospital parking lot located at 165th and Fort Washington .

At the end of each interview day, the faculty ranks the applicants that they have interviewed. Another faculty meeting is held at the completion of the interview process, where all the interviewed candidates are again discussed in detail and the rank order list is then submitted to NRMP, through the ERAS Program.

2007 Urology Residency Match Program Schedule

Spring 2007 -
Jan. 3, 2008

Match information is available on line. Register on line with a credit card. A $75 non-refundable payment is required to acquire a registration number. Match registration is accepted through December 14, 2007.

Within two weeks after registration, you will receive your I.D. number. This number should be given to each program with which you interview. Apply to programs of interest to you. Again this year, the match programs have the option to participate in Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS ® ). You will find a list of accredited urology training programs on our web site. Each individual program designates their participation in the current match and ERAS ® . Note program application deadlines, but do not wait until the last minute, as they can change. If you are offered an interview by a program, respond immediately, as interview slots can fill quickly. The program you match with generally provides pre-urology training. Some programs require that you also go through the National Resident Match Program (NRMP) as a formality for the surgery year(s)-check with each individual program for their requirements.

Fall - January 2008

Applicants interview at the urology training programs with which they have made previous arrangements.

December - January 3, 2008

All applicants and programs submit preference lists online to the AUA Residency Matching Program, showing their highest preference first and remaining choices in descending order. These preference lists must be submitted to the AUA Residency Matching Program no later than January 3, 2008.

January 4 - 18, 2008

The matching process is performed. A number of cross checks and safeguards will be utilized to ensure fairness, accuracy and confidentiality.

January 21, 2008

Results for current medical students are faxed to U.S. and Canadian Student Affairs Offices. Faxes and e-mails are sent to medical schools, urology programs, and applicants informing them of their match(es).

January 21, 2008 NRMP Deadline

If you match with a urology program, check to see if you must go through the formality of the NRMP Match for surgery training at that same institution. If appropriate, submit your ranking list to the NRMP with code provided.

General Information

The AUA Residency Matching Program assigns match numbers to applicants and programs that register online. Applicants register with the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS ® ) and contact programs to request application forms, for those programs not participating in ERAS ® , and to set up interviews. All applicants and programs complete the preference list forms online and submit to the AUA Residency Matching Program no later than January 3, 2008. The AUA Residency Matching Program performs the match and sends out results to applicants, medical schools and urology training programs. In some cases, applicants must also go through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) as a formality for the surgery training required before urology training. Applicants should check with each program to determine their requirements relative to the NRMP match.
