Kidney and Testicular Cancer
Testicular cancer, which occurs most commonly in young men between the ages of 15 and 35, can also occur in younger children. It is treated by removing the affected testicle. Chemotherapy also may be recommended. when detected and treated early, the cure rate for those with testicular cancer is better than 95 percent.
Children who develop kidney cancer usually have Wilm's tumor, a very curable form of cancer when detected and treated early. The majority of children who develop this type of cancer are under the age of 7. Treatment includes a combination of surgery, chemotherapy and, in some cases, radiation therapy. Children with Wilm's tumor are cared for by the Clinic's multidisciplinary team of experts including pediatric urologists.
