Benjamin A. Spencer, MD, MPH

Dr. Benjamin Spencer graduated from Yale University in 1989 and received his medical degree from Columbia University in 1994. He completed a residency in the Department of Urology at Massachusetts General Hospital in 2000 and spent one year on the attending staff there. From 2001-04, he was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at UCLA and practiced as a staff urologist in Urologic Oncology at the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System. He returned to New York City in 2004 to complete a formal clinical fellowship in Urologic Oncology and Laparoscopy at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute.

His clinical area of expertise is Urologic Oncology, including the treatment of prostate, bladder, kidney, and testis cancer. His research interests closely parallel his clinical interests and currently focus on assessing quality of care for prostate cancer. He has published papers in the Journal of Urology , Cancer , and the Journal of Clinical Oncology . His research has been funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCLA. The Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program awarded him a Physician Research Training Award for five years, 2005-2010, to continue his quality-of-care studies.
