NCCP Releases Child Poverty Update

The CSPH-based National Center for Children in Poverty has released a new study, “Statistical Update on Young Child Poverty,” which confirms that young children remain America’s poorest age group. According to the report, the percentage of poor young children with working parents has increased dramatically. in 1996, 63 percent of poor children under age six lived in families with at least one employed parent, an increase of 16 percent over the past three years.
