Student NewsTuckson Inspires 291 GraduatesReed V. Tuckson, M.D., senior vice president, professional standards, for the American Medical association, addressed the 291 graduates of the Class of 98 at the Columbia School of Public Health graduation ceremony on Wednesday, May 20, 1998 in the garden of Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. The 1998 recipients of the Deans Distinguished Service Award joined Tuckson and the deans on the podium. Honored for their many contributions to public health and to the School were: Barbara DeBuono, M.D., M.P.H., commissioner of the New York State Department of Health; Anna Gelman, M.P.H., special lecturer, CSPH Division of Epidemiology; Margaret Hamburg, M.D., assistant secretary for planning and evaluation, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and James Hardin, M.P.H.,`78, executive director for the Regional Network of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
