All Columbia faculty, students, and alumni are invited to submit nominations for the 2009 Presidential Awards for Outstanding Teaching at www.columbia.edu/cu/vpaa/teach.
Each spring, the University honors exceptional faculty and graduate student instructors who through their teaching have a lasting influence on the intellectual development of students and maintain the University’s longstanding reputation for educational excellence.
Five awards will be presented to faculty at the commencement ceremony in May, each carrying a prize of $15,000. Anyone who holds a full- or part-time faculty appointment in a department within Columbia, other than student officers of instruction, is eligible for the faculty teaching award. The deadline for nominations is Jan. 30, 2009.
Three awards will be presented to graduate student instructors, each carrying a prize of $5,000. Candidates for the graduate student awards must be enrolled in a degree program offered by a school at Columbia but do not need to teach in the year in which they are nominated. The deadline for graduate student nominations is Feb. 6, 2009.
Nominations should include a detailed description of the individual’s teaching accomplishments.
