Alumni Association president Lewis B. Lane'74 welcomed returning alumni and friends from near and far, turning the podium over to Scientific Program Committee Chairman Andrew G. Frantz'55. As per tradition, Dr. Frantz launched the program with a salute to the Honorary Alumni Day Chairman: George A. Perera'37, an emeritus member of the faculty and pioneering researcher in the field of hypertension. Dr. Perera also served as former associate dean with a broad range of responsibilities, covering almost every area of concern to students, including admissions, curriculum, financial aid, student affairs, and career counseling.

Stephen E. Straus'72, chief of the Laboratory of Clinical Investigation and head of medical virology at NIAID, NIH, "Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome (ALPS): An Inherited Disorder of Lymphocyte Apoptosis"

Nicholas A. Romas'62, professor of clinical urology at P&S, "A Novel Signaling System in Prostatic Growth"

John J. Sciarra'57MD/PhD, professor and chairman of obstetrics and gynecology at Northwestern University Medical School, "Obstetrics and Gynecology in Developing Countries"

David H. Lewis'47, professor emeritus of clinical and experimental microcirculatory physiology at the University of Linköping, Sweden, "The Delivery of Medical Care in Sweden"

Alice G. Brandfonbrenner'57, assistant professor of medicine at Northwestern, had been scheduled to speak on "Performing Arts Medicine: A Lively Specialty" but was unable to attend.
