P&S Honors David Mahoney of Dana Foundation

In recognition of his lifelong commitment to health and medical research, David J. Mahoney, chairman and chief executive officer of the influential Charles A. Dana Foundation, the Eleanor Naylor Dana Charitable Trust, the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives, and David Mahoney Ventures, was awarded the prestigious Dean's Award for Distinguished Service from P&S last fall.

Twice a year, P&S presents the Dean's Award to individuals who have shown a committed interest in medical research, encouraged development of the field, and raised awareness on a national level. In his capacity with the Charles A. Dana Foundation, Mr. Mahoney oversees a private, philanthropic foundation with assets in excess of $240 million. The foundation supports health, education, and research in the field of neuroscience, seeking better ways to diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases and disorders that afflict millions of Americans.

Dr. Herbert Pardes, vice president and dean, presented the award and called Mr. Mahoney "a friend of science, a friend of Columbia, and a friend of people who are hurting and in need." Previous Dean's Award recipients include Anna Wintour, Mary Lasker, Rosalynn Carter, Tipper Gore, and Dr. Michael DeBakey.
